Minimize the risk of infection with smart access control
Systec & Solutions GmbH

Since the current Infection Protection Act (IfSG) came into force, access to companies and medical facilities must be documented1. With a digital solution for access control, such as the new HYGIENICSTATION from Systec & Solutions GmbH, this is particularly easy and secure. It simultaneously enables contactless, data protection-compliant documentation as required by the IfSG, facial temperature measurement and verification that a medical face mask is being worn correctly. The hardware can also be completely disinfected, which further minimizes the risk of transmission of pathogens.

Personal access control is not only expensive and error-prone - it also poses an increased risk of infection for everyone involved. Digital solutions reduce this risk by automating processes and minimizing contact between employees and customers or patients. But beware: the user interface itself can become a source of infection if it is not designed for regular disinfection.

On the hardware side, the HYGIENICSTATION consists of an industrial PC housed in stainless steel with a touch display and a separate panel with an integrated thermal imaging camera. On the one hand, this records the facial temperature and, on the other, checks whether the visitor is wearing a medical mask. All components were originally developed for the high hygiene requirements of the pharmaceutical industry. They comply with the recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute2 , are certified to IP65 standard and can therefore be completely disinfected. In contrast to other hardware solutions for access control, there is therefore a greatly reduced risk of cross-contamination during cleaning and use.

And how does access control work? The integrated infrared sensor measures the person's facial temperature with high accuracy and at the same time the facial recognition software checks whether a medical mask is being worn. If previously defined parameters are not met, a warning is automatically issued or, if desired, access is denied. People who wish to enter a secure area and are permitted to do so register on the device using a questionnaire that is tailored to the company and can be customized. The HYGIENICSTATION is equipped with the mQuest® data collection software from cluetec GmbH for this purpose. The data entered is encrypted and transmitted to a web portal, where it is stored in compliance with the GDPR. Once the data has been successfully entered, the registered user then receives an email with the relevant information for their documentation.

Andreas König, CEO of Systec & Solutions, adds: "Our combination of robust hardware and smart software is not only suitable for medical facilities: Any business that values infection prevention should consider how the prescribed access controls can be implemented in a secure, data protection-compliant and resource-saving manner."
