BioTrak® - Real-time airborne bacteria counting
PMT Particle Measurement Technology GmbH

The BioTrak® real-time airborne germ counter uses real-time germ analysis to detect microbial contamination and particles in the air. Germs are detected using laser-induced fluorescence with active compensation of non-biological signals by analyzing several frequency bands.
The BioTrak® can be used as a stand-alone measuring device or integrated into a monitoring system of a plant or cleanroom.
The continuous operation allows limit value alarms to be issued in real time. The system also offers the advantage that no further consumables are required for the pure measurement of the number of particles and microbial germs.
The BioTrak® consists of three sections through which the air contaminated with germs flows. In the upper section, any particles in the range 0.5 µm ≤ x ≤ 25 µm are detected using a scattered light method. The air flow is then concentrated in order to differentiate between the sum of all particles and the microorganisms they contain using laser-induced fluorescence. In a final step, the air flows onto a gelatine filter. This can then be removed and used to analyze the microorganisms it contains.
