What is containment?

The term "containment" means lim iting the spread of a substance or other agent. Containment refers to all measures that limit the spread of highly effective substances, including very simple ones. Containment is intended to reduce the spread of a polluted environment, i.e. the spread of the atmosphere inside production facilities that is more or less contaminated with the substance. How good the containment must be depends on the degree of biological activity of the contaminating substance.

Dr. Nicolai suggested th e creation of the adaptive learning module "Highly Potent Substances, Introduction and Legal Basis" and it was created based on his documentation and with his participation as a Subject Matter Expert.

A possible expansion of this topic in a series of adaptive modules is currently being planned. If you work in this area, please send us your feedback on what other points would be of interest.

Dr. Rainer Nicolai is Product Owner Engineering Consulting at Roche headquarters in Basel/Switzerland. He has worked as a project manager for more than 20 years and is a subject matter expert for containment technologies that cover the entire manufacturing value chain.
