Vaisala simplifies incubator monitoring with wireless carbon dioxide measurement solution

Vaisala, a global leader in weather, environmental and industrial measurement, introduces a wireless carbon dioxide measurement solution. This simplifies the monitoring of incubators and enables customers to effortlessly install and save costs.

The new measurement solution for life science environments combines the Vaisala Carbon Dioxide Probe GMP251 with the Vaisala Wireless Data Logger RFL100. The new configuration leverages the superior measurement stability and accuracy of the GMP251 probe and provides reliable carbon dioxide percentage measurements for incubators used in cell cultivation, gene therapy and vaccine research, for example.

"Previously, carbon dioxide meters took up a lot of space and were quite complicated to install and maintain, not to mention the costs involved," says Anniina Uotila, Product Manager, Industrial Measurements, Vaisala. "With the RFL100 CO2 configuration, a much simpler wireless setup is possible, ideal for incubators in both highly regulated GxP and non-GxP applications. Wireless data loggers also eliminate the need for costly Ethernet connectivity for each data logger. In addition, our incubator customers can benefit from the RFL100's local display of carbon dioxide data next to their equipment."

The RFL100 can provide multiple measurements in a single data logger: CO2 percentage, temperature and humidity. In addition to the GMP251 carbon dioxide probe, other RFL100-compatible probes include the TMP115 temperature probe or the HMP115 and HMP110 temperature and relative humidity probes from Vaisala.

Powerful
All RFL100 data loggers are connected to Vaisala's viewLinc software for monitoring, alarming and reporting. The RFL100 series loggers utilize Vaisala's proprietary LoRa®-based VaiNet wireless technology. This offers a signal range of more than 100 m indoors, even in complex blocked environments. VaiNet uses LoRa® modulation, which prevents signal interference in WLAN applications. All VaiNet data transmissions are encrypted and verified before being stored in viewLinc's secure database, ensuring data integrity. This ensures data integrity.

Vaisala RFL100 data loggers are powered by an external power supply for carbon dioxide measurement, but include a lithium backup battery to protect the data logger's memory during power or network interruptions.

"Our customers appreciate the secure wireless connectivity and easy deployment of VaiNet. Installing Ethernet access for each data logger is not necessary if you have a reliable signal with significant range, such as the RFL100," says Anniina Uotila. "In combination with the GMP251 probes, which have a wide operating temperature range and high accuracy, the RFL100 data loggers also provide probe calibration data in the viewLinc monitoring system."

In addition to data integrity and global compliance, the award-winning Vaisala viewLinc continuous monitoring system offers easy-to-use software, web-based user access, real-time data and remote alerting.

Vaisala RFL100 carbon dioxide data loggers are available from July 2021.
