Investment projects are omnipresent in pharmaceutical companies. Beyond their individual objectives they mainly differentiate in size and complexity. All have in common that they need to meet the expectations of the sponsor in terms of time, cost and performance objectives. Part of performance objectives are the project quality as well as the satisfaction of all directly or indirectly affected parties. Hence, also authorities are important project stakeholders, which can decide about success or failure of a project. To ensure project success the competent authority should be involved early and regularly and provided with required information and documents.
While big investment projects are in focus of the companies´ general management, small projects hardly get any attention and suffer from lack of resources. This is a risky approach because the complexity of a project does not always correlate with its budget and a failure even of a small project may lead to significant damage for the company.
Competent project management with special attention to GMP-requirements with authority involvement are key to success.
