At SCHOTT Schweiz GmbH, a fully membrane-based MWFI system has been implemented for the first time, setting new standards in efficiency and sustainability. By intelligently utilizing excess heat from the cooling systems (approx. 70 °C), the plant’s steam demand was reduced to only 20 kWh per m³ of produced WFI – compared to more than 300 kWh/m³ for conventional multi-effect distillation units. The system achieves benchmark results in water recovery and operational reliability. Another unique feature is its ability to supply users directly, providing both cold and hot WFI (85 °C) without the need for an intermediate storage tank.
