For the standard-compliant leak testing of installed HEPA filter systems according EN ISO 14644, two methods are available meeting different requirements with regard to application conditions, accuracy, and informative value: Determination of the mass concentration using an aerosol photometer, and measurement of the particle count using a light-scattering single-particle counter. Both leak tests are assessing the integrity of the filter medium and the correct installation of the entire filter system.
To highlight the different classes of biological safety cabinets (BSCs), EN 12469 is currently under revision. The relevant sections define the minimum requirements for installation, commissioning, and routine testing of BSCs. Based on their level of protection and intended application, the safety cabinets are divided into different classes. In addition to structural and ergonomic requirements, detailed test procedures for performance assessment are specified.
